The Grace of Interruption

I was once asked by person giving a free seminar on finding a career what I was doing there. I told him that I was experiencing the “Grace of Interruption” His name was Dan Miller and to my shock one day I was reading Dan’s Book 48 days to the work you love an Interactive study and I found a section titled the Grace of Interruption this is what Dan wrote, “This phrase was reported recently by a lady(me) who had been laid off unexpectedly ( a nice euphemism for fired). She related that she had been given the “grace of interruption.” If we look at these words, it really does imply a very positive occurrence. Grace is defined as ‘an attractive quality,’ ‘the condition of being favored ’or even‘a short prayer in which a blessing is asked’. Surely any of these are to be desired. An interruption is a break in the continuity or an intermission. Think of the intermission of a game where players review what has happened and then plan for better results and more success in the second half. These together seem to set the stage for a refreshing pause to become newly focused and energized.” When my life is not going as I had planned I get down and say to myself what is this all about you never thought you would be living with your parents at age 41 and working in retail. Then I think of all the wonderful things I have learned and the people who have enriched my life because of the “grace of interruption.” It was this grace that allowed my phrase to be placed in a book that has perhaps reached millions of readers and maybe helped even one person when they were down after being laid off or being dumped by a boyfriend or girlfriend. What have you learned and who has come into your life during the periods when life has not gone as you had planned? This blog will be filled with some of the stories, observations and people I have met during this period of grace.
